More uses for unused ip office phone to suit ham radio

Thanks to the guys at Hamshack Hotline for making this possible and another way to keep technology out of landfill by being repurposed in to something great.

The first photo below shows my phone setup using a Cisco SPA-525G2 phone with an SPA-500s sidecar but any ip phone will do. If you use anything thats not listed on their website you are on your own.

Cisco SPA-525G2 running hamshackhotline

Once you have your phone and are ready to go just head on over to hamshackhotline.com and select HHOPS Helpdesk and then signup then you will need to log in and select [open a new ticket] select if in Australia HHAP New line request and then fillout your details including the mac address of your phone also take a clear photo of your label on the back of your phone and attach it to the ticket so they can confirm your details. Then after a few days maybe less you will receive an email with your number and a link you will use to provision/setup your phone. Just change the x.x.x.x to what ever your phones ip is on your network. Once the phone has completed provisioning your will see your callsign on the top right side of your screen.

As you see under reboot history provisioning is done.

Once your done Congrats and now the fun starts by going to the phone book via the website [picture below] you can dial any other hamshackhotline phone on the network but you can also connect to RF links which is other hams allstar nodes or repeaters and in some cases dmr repeaters but you can also connect to reflectors and there is more coming online every day.

Phonebook for every hamshack ham

One other thing which is kind of crazy is if you have hamshack hotline setup and you add RF linking and softphone setup you can connect your cisco phone to your allstar node and using your mobile phone with [groundwire app] installed I can talk on my mobile through the cisco phone through my allstar node which transmits on rf via vhf 145.390mhz all at the same time and anyone who is listening on rf or on my allstar can also be part of the conversation. Which is very cool.
